Old Man's Profile

I loved doing this one. Don't know why! Perhaps because I didn't  use blending - just directional lines and shading.

Three Quarter Over-the-Shoulder Portrait

This was incredibly tricky. It looks more like the original than not, but the position of the head is odd in the source photo and it seems exaggerated in the drawing. I'm also getting a bit bored with the blending technique - time to be more precise with my hatching, I think.

Portrait over Shoulder

My nephew

I'm still twiddling with this. At this point I can't tell if it's getting any better.

The delectable Mr Depp as Sweeney Todd.

Mean and moody John Thaw

Just played around with this from a photograph. It's very mean and moody. Pencil and blending stump with putty rubber to lift.

My brother

I tried to do a portrait of my brother, and managed a likeness, despite him being incapable of keeping still!

Laura

I've always liked this cheeky picture of my friend, Laura, so I've tried to draw a stylised version.

Poppy the dog

A black dog is damn hard to draw when the only shape you can see is in reflections...

Portrait Class 3

We had a new 'life' model today, Kirsty. By life, I don't mean naked - it's a portrait course so, thank feck, clothes stay on!

This is my portrait after making an initial sketch, which was finished in oil pastels with a purple brusho background.

Self Portrait No.1

This version enhanced with drawing pens marks and greater depth of shadow and tone.

My original sketch in pencil with brusho colour, which looked a little insipid.

Pencil drawing of face

Portrait course - the skull in mixed media

This was created using many media - predominantly drawing pen, sennelier oil pastels and pencil to take away.
